How to Create an Account in the FMCSA Clearinghouse

We get the question all the time, how do I create and account in the FMCSA Clearinghouse?  How do I get registered in the FMCSA Clearinghouse? Who must register and who must set up an account in the FMCSA Clearinghouse?  This blog post has your answers and will help you to navigate the FMCSA Clearinghouse, the FMCSA drug and alcohol test results database.

ClearinghouseServices.com is a private company with a goal to assist employers, CDL drivers and Service Agents (MRO, C/TPA and SAP’s) with their responsibilities mandated by the FMCSA Clearinghouse rule also known as the Commercial Driver’s License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse as per regulations 49 CFR Part 382, Subpart G.  ClearinghouseServices.com can help all users create an account in the FMCSA Clearinghouse, just call 877-345-2425 or Click to Contact.

Steps to Set Up your FMCSA Clearinghouse Account

Step 1: Go to https://clearinghouse.fmcsa.dot.gov/

Step 2: Click on the Register button in the upper right side

Step 3: Click on the Go to Login.gov button

Step 4: Click on the Create an account link. This is below the blue sign in button.

Step 5: Enter your email address, click submit

Step 6: Check your email account for an email from [email protected]. Click the Confirm email address button in the email

Step 7: After confirming your email address you will be asked to create a password. The password will need to be 12 characters long, it can include upper- or lower-case letters, numbers or special characters. We recommend checking the box to Show Password as you will not be asked to confirm the password. The password strength will need to be good or great to continue.

Step 8: You will need to select an authentication method. I recommend using a cell phone number and getting a text Message. You will select Phone and click Continue. Enter your cell phone number and select to receive a Text/SMS message.

Step 9: Enter the security code you receive and click submit. You have created your login.gov account, you will now continue with the Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse registration.

Step 10: Select your Role; employer (also owner-operator), driver, consortium/third party administrator (C/TPA), Medical Review Officer (MRO), or Substance Abuse Professional (SAP). It is very important to select the correct role, each role functions differently. Click Next.

The remaining steps in the registration process will vary depending on your role. If you need assistance, please call ClearinghouseServices.com at 877-345-2425.

The various roles in the Clearinghouse are as follows with links to registration instructions.

As a user registers in the Clearinghouse all these users except for the Drivers can assign assistants to also work in the Clearinghouse.  The main user should register first and then in the system invite other persons to be assistance. Make sure your assistants do not go in and register on their own without using the invitation link that you send them.  The main user would be called the Clearinghouse Administrator. This person manage users on behalf of their company.
